Common questions

How do I delete my data?

Yappa does not collect anything, so we hold no data about you. Everything the app stores is on your iPhone: delete the app to remove it.

Which iPhones does Yappa run on?

Any iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Features that use Apple Intelligence need an iPhone that supports it, with Apple Intelligence turned on.

Do I need to download a model?

Not on an iPhone with Apple Intelligence: Yappa uses Apple's speech recognition and language model, with no download. On other iPhones, open Settings › Models in Yappa: under This iPhone you see what works without a download, and the models marked Recommended are a good start, one for speech and one for writing. Each model says how much memory it needs. Without a writing model, you still get your words exactly as spoken.

Where are my notes, and how do I move them to a new iPhone?

Your library is a folder of Markdown files, in the Files app under On My iPhone › Yappa. To move it, tap Export library in Yappa's settings and save the folder somewhere your new iPhone can reach, such as iCloud Drive. On the new iPhone, tap Restore from a folder and choose it; it replaces the library there. Export settings and Import settings move your settings the same way, as a separate file.

What happens if I close Yappa while a recording is being processed?

Nothing is lost: the recording is saved before Yappa works on it. Apple's models, Parakeet and Whisper keep working after you leave Yappa when iOS allows it, and iOS shows the progress; open writing models such as Qwen, LFM or Gemma continue once you're back. If Yappa is closed completely, it picks up where it stopped the next time you open it. To process recordings only while Yappa is open, turn off Keep working in the background in Settings › Models.

Why didn't a reminder appear?

Yappa reminds you on the day an open task is due, at the time set in Settings › Reminders. Check there that Due-day reminders is on and that Yappa may send notifications: if they are off in iOS, Turn on notifications takes you to the iOS settings. A task added for today after that time gets no reminder that day, and a Focus or the Scheduled Summary can hold notifications back.

How do I record from the Lock Screen, Control Center or the Action button?

Add the Record in Yappa control: in Control Center, on the Lock Screen (customize it and replace one of the two controls at the bottom), or for the Action button in the Settings app under Action Button. For each control you choose whether it records a note, a task or a journal entry. There is also a round Record widget for the Lock Screen, and Siri and Shortcuts can start a recording too.
